I Love Opinionated People

One of the basic tenets of marketing revolves around polarization.  If you have a strong opinion and express it you should run into two different kinds of people.

There are those who will agree and join the bandwagon and those who will disagree.  The objective isn’t to be everyone’s friend but rather have an opinion that polarizes people into one camp or the other.  You are either for me or against me.

That’s because in either case you’ll get people talking about your opinion.  And talk is good.

These next months will play that out in one form or another as three men and a woman battle it out for the highest office in the Nation.

And there are opinions every where.  My neighbors have signs in their lawns.  My kids teachers are espousing their own rhetoric about the political campaign in an attempt to sway the minds of the children to their camp.  My relatives have strong opinions that they believe should be upheld by facts.  They go to great lengths to ensure that their opinions are based in fact and not emotion.

Opinionated people have passion about their subject.  They love it and they believe that they stand on the side of right.

And as marketers it is exactly how we should feel about our own products and services.  We must be passionate about what we offer and how we offer it – because if we aren’t, then who will?
